Introduction to Etching

Class Date: Friday July 15th

Time: 9:30 – 4:30pm

Instructor:  Jennifer Wolfe / Katlyn Sumpton

Class Outline:

Explore the possibilities of etching on silver and bronze. This one day workshop aims to teach you how to etch the surface of the metal using PNP heat transfer paper.

Etching enables you to transfer an image directly on the metal by using a PNP resist to create a relief effect without the use of hand tools.

Using a combination of bronze and silver, participants will learn:

  • basic safety rules for handling etching mordants
  • how to successfully apply a PNP resist to create patterns/images on metal
  • how to incorporate etched pieces in your designs
  • how to use cold connections / riveting to attach your pieces together instead of soldering
