This demo-focused workshop will provide students with the opportunity of honing their stone setting skills as instructor Kyle Barrett leads them through stone setting techniques such as tube setting and flush setting for faceted stones.

This workshop will focus on technical stone setting techniques and using the right tools for the job.

Participants should have some prior metalsmithing experience (soldering etc) as knowing the basic techniques and tools of jewellery making will allow you to move faster through each setting.

This workshop is not intended to focus on jewellery making but to help you become proficient at stone setting.

Introduction to Stone Setting

Class Date: Wednesday May 8, 15, 22, 29th

Time: 6 – 9 pm

Instructors:  Kyle Barrett

Kyle Barrett is a professionally trained Goldsmith and Stone setter.  He was classically trained in Belgium at Alexandre setting school in 2016.

Class Outline:

This demo-focused workshop will provide students with the opportunity of honing their stone setting skills as instructor Kyle Barrett leads them through stone setting techniques such as tube setting and flush setting for faceted stones.

This workshop will focus on technical stone setting techniques and using the right tools for the job.

Participants should have some prior metalsmithing experience (soldering etc) as knowing the basic techniques and tools of jewellery making will allow you to move faster through each setting.

This workshop is not intended to focus on jewellery making but to help you become proficient at stone setting.

This workshop will cover:

  • Tube setting: overview, sizing, and fitting
  • Stone selection
  • Measuring stones
  • Faceted stone setting in tube setting
  • Flush setting: overview, sizing and fitting
  • Modifyng tools to accommodate specific tasks

 

Stone setting kit includes the following items:

  • 3mm round CZ stones
  • 5mm round CZ stones
  • Stone setting practice wheel for 3 and 5mm bezel set stones
  • 5mm solitaire tube set ring
  • 3mm x 3 tube set ring
  • Stone Setting burs
  • Ball burs
  • 2mm thick copper practice for flush setting
  • burnisher
  • setting punch

With small class sizes you will have the opportunity to have in-depth lessons and more one-on-one assistance.

Please wear close-toed shoes, comfortable clothes, your hair tied back.

Payment Details

Workshop Fee: $440.00 +HST per person, includes $85 kit fee for stone setting kit.

Registration & Cancellation Policy

How to Register:

Sign up and pay for the workshop via this page.

A signed waiver will be required to proceed in any workshop.

Minimum age of workshop participation is 16. 

Minimum 3 students must be registered for the course to run.  Maximum 6 students.

Class Cancellation Policy:

If you need to cancel or reschedule a class, our CANCELLATION POLICY depends on the time until the scheduled class:

  • Up to a week, a refund will be issued minus a $15 cancellation fee, or a credit will be given to attend a future workshop. Workshop credits must be used within a 60-day period after cancellation, or it will be forfeited.
  • Within 48 hours, no refund or credit is given.

We may reschedule or cancel classes if we do not receive the minimum number of bookings, or in case of bad weather or instructor illness. In this case, you will be notified and the fees will be refunded.
